The Complete OOF Editing Tool
By Robert 'SuperSheep' Piontek

Version 1.518
Final Site Update: March 3, 2002

Here it is folks.  SuperSheep has released the UPDATED OOFEDITOR.
OOFEDITOR makes it possible to build complex objects, including sub-models, in D3Edit.  You don't need an expensive modeling program.  OOFEDITOR allows you to create a complete, multi-model object in D3Edit, convert it from an ORF to an OOF, complete with sub-models, and in less than a minute (I timed myself) you're ready to set properties, add gunpoints, attach points, define weapon batteries, and fully animate your OOF.  OOFEDITOR will also display your oof with custom and animated textures.

Not only does OOFEDITOR give you the the power to take level design to new limits,  SuperSheep has loaded this program with tools that are intuitive, making it easy to understand, learn, and use.  Mind you, if you're new to 3D modeling and animation there are concepts you'll need to learn.  Some of the more advanced animation concepts can be a little tricky.  Luckily, the tools in OOFEDITOR will actually make it easier to understand what you're doing and why.

Here's a small screen shot of OOFEDITOR featuring my pet lifter 'Max' as I take him through his animation key frames.  SuperSheep was nice enough to use Max as his OOFEDITOR logo.

From the time I opened Max's D3Edit orf in OOFEDITOR it took less than 20 seconds to totally structure the sub-model hierarchy.  Less the 2 minutes to relocate all 16 pivot points to exactly where I wanted them.  The glowing eyes took 10 seconds each- including color assignment and adjusting their radius.

I was finished animating Max (6 frames, 10 keys each) in about 20 minutes.

JUST A FEW OF THE GREAT FEATURES
* Easy Navigation
* Drag-n-Drop Sub-Model relations
* Create key-frame animation
* Play back animation
* Copy/Paste animation keys from frames or other oofs
* Return-to-Start Translates the model to it's start position.
* Add properties from a menu.
* Set glow and turret fov from control panels.
* Create 'Special points' for collision properties.
* Gunpoints and Weapon Batteries- fast and easy.

VERSION 1.518 Notes
* Added D3 Image Tool to Package
* Addition to Credits: Meant to add LL(ATAN) to credits list. The program was changed but no credit was given.
* Bug fix: Every Rotational key is stored in Axis/Angle format and the Angle is always supposed to be positive.
* Bug fix: Fixed a bug that caused keys to be displayed at the Minimum or Maximum extents if there was a key that was lower or higher respectively regardless of whether or not a key actually existed at the Min/Max Frame.

So download OOFEDITOR NOW by clicking here.

Install it and set up your defaults.  OOFEDITOR just needs to know where you're keeping your D3Hog.  Once that's done click on the drop box to see any of D3's oof.s.  OOFEDITOR can read and extract oofs from Descent 3 hog files and mn3 files.  No, you can't save directly back into a hog or mn3- you'll have to do some work yourself.

When you're ready come on back.  I'll be supplying tutorials that will teach you how to use OOFEDITOR along with D3Edit to create powerups, animated objects, doors, and robots-armed, animated, and ready to rock.  We'll start with a simple single model oof, a powerup, that uses the $rotation property to turn in D3.  After that an animated switch to break you in.  From there- robots with gunpoints, glowing eyes and thrusters, and as much animated as D3's fusion engine will allow.

One more thing.  If there's an existing oof you need to edit use OOFtoORF by SuperSheep.  OOF2ORF will make an ORF of the OOF so that you can edit it in D3Edit.
