Any Team Game

Symmetry is the key for team games. Wait, I'll put that better, BALANCE is the key for team games. Symmetry isn't always a good thing to do because if you know your base inside out, then you know theirs too. Keeping the teams' areas balanced is the biggest thing to keep in mind when making a team game level. One team might have structures for their base to do some nice offencive attacks, while on the other hand the other team's base might be very good at defending their position. How you set the bases up determines the level.
Access to the bases is also a big issue. More often than not, you don't want to put just one enterance to a teams' base. That would allow campers to sit at the opening and nail anyone coming in or out of a base. There should usualy be two or three enterances, which you can get creative with (the main gates and a secret passage, etc).
There are two differant 'styles' of team games in my perspective. One of which you have a 'base' which is fortified with only a few enterances. The other is more of a maze filled with tunnels and these tunnels connect to a larger room with flag/entropy goals. Each of these styles have their own strengths and weaknesses. The base one is nice because they are generaly easier to defend, but usualy the area between the two bases are a large "no mans' land" (see where I got the name for my level from? :) of sorts, meaning most of the battles get fought there. It is hard to sneak up on a base unless there is a tunnel leading almost directly inside it. The maze one has its own strengths, for one it is easier to sneak up on the opposing base becasue there is a lot more openings for them to defend and chances are they aren't defending it all. Though one of its biggest weaknesses is that if you have no direction sence, like me, it is easy to get lost in the tunnels and go in circles.
Weapon placement should be even for both teams. There should be an even amount of weapon spawn places per team and many more in the no mans' land, or maze, or whatever. Depending on the size of the level, there should be doubles of each weapon so if one team starts with a weapon, somewhere in the other team's base, they start with the same weapon. Of course, if the level is medium sized, two black sharks might not be the best of ideas so use common sence when placing weapons too.
